On the morning of Tuesday, November 12, 2024, Jennifer was on her way to a postpartum visit in Baltimore as a student midwife when tragedy struck. She was involved in a collision with a semi-truck, and despite every effort to save her, she passed away shortly after reaching the hospital. Jennifer was a light in every room she entered. She poured her heart into birth work as a birth doula, postpartum doula, and newborn care specialist. For four years, she attended Southwest Tech, where she was known for her vibrant energy, infectious laughter, and unwavering support for her classmates. If you were in her group, you knew you would learn, laugh, and be uplifted. But Jennifer’s journey was not without challenges. She worked tirelessly to support herself through school, paying for her education out of pocket while balancing work and clinic. There were times when she had to step away from her studies to earn enough money to return, and the weight of those sacrifices often left her exhausted. Still, she never gave up because midwifery was at the center of her heart. To honor Jennifer’s legacy, we have created this scholarship to support student midwives in their final stretch of school- those who, like Jenn, need that last push to cross the finish line. In a deeply moving tribute, Southwest Tech awarded Jennifer its first ever posthumous degree, now displayed in the classroom as a reminder of her dedication and resilience. By supporting this scholarship, you are carrying Jennifer’s light forward. You are helping future midwives of color overcome financial barriers and achieve their dreams. Please join us in keeping Jennifer’s legacy alive by uplifting the next generation of midwives in her honor.
